Clinical Psychologist

Do you feel like life is getting on top of you?

With our lives becoming increasingly busy and often juggling several competing demands, it is not surprising that all of us have moments when we find it difficult to cope with daily life. But you don't have to continue to struggle.
If you find yourself worrying about things big or small, feel like you are 'going through the motions', feel disconnected from the people you care about, are avoiding challenging situations, snapping at the people you love, or just think "it could be better than this"; psychological therapy can help you to understand what is going on, and give you strategies that you can fit into your everyday life.

I encourage you to phone me for a free consultation over the phone about what might be right for you. It is important that there is the right fit between therapist and client, so it is worth spending some time ensuring you are comfortable. Often people feel nervous about contacting a psychologist and beginning therapy as most people do not know what to expect. A brief chat over the phone can often answer any questions you may have.

About Me

I am a Clinical Psychologist with over 15 years of experience in the assessment and treatment of a range of difficulties including depression, anxiety, stress, trauma, grief and loss. To become a Clinical Psychologist I did seven years of University study and I have worked in a range of settings including working with adults aged 18-65 in a Community Mental Health team for Counties Manukau District Health Board, Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) sessions, work with the NZ Police, Fire and Emergency NZ, as well as working in Private Practice. I am also registered with ACC for Sensitive Claims and work related injuries. People come to see me for a range of things including feeling flat, difficulty in social situations, feeling stressed or burnt out, and much more.
I help people in identifying current challenges, connecting with what is important, and learning skills and tools to cope with the difficult things life throws at you. I am trained in a number of therapy modalities including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Mindfulness.
My office is in Cromwell and I see people from all across Central Otago, including Cromwell, Wanaka, Queenstown, Alexandra, and Clyde.
I am also able to offer Telehealth or online sessions.

How do I know if this is right for me?

It is important that there is the right fit between therapist and client so it is worth spending some time ensuring you are comfortable. A brief chat over the phone will often answer any questions you have. After the initial session you can also go away and think to make a decision about whether this is the treatment for you. You are not locked into further sessions, and if you don't feel this is right for you, I am happy to suggest other potential options.

What is a Clinical Psychologist?

A Clinical Psychologist helps you to understand your thoughts, beliefs, feelings, experiences, and behaviour; and can help you with strategies to improve your mental wellbeing and make positive changes in your life. To be a Clinical Psychologist you must go through 6-7 years of University Level training. All Clinical Psychologists should be registered with the New Zealand Psychologists' Board.
A Clinical Psychologist does not prescribe medications but can work with your GP if medication seems like something that may be helpful for you.
